Supporting Wisconsin's Seniors

Nasra Wehelie recognizes the invaluable contributions seniors have made to our community. Their wisdom and experience have helped shape our society. As your Democratic candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly District 80, she is dedicated to ensuring that seniors receive the support and resources they need to live with dignity and security. When elected, Nasra has a comprehensive plan to:

Financial Security and Tax Relief

  • Provide tax relief for seniors, protecting fixed-income homeowners from property tax hikes.

  • Support initiatives that enhance retirement savings and financial security, ensuring seniors can live comfortably and independently.

  • Promote state-managed retirement savings plans, helping seniors save more effectively for their future. With Wisconsin Republicans historically opposing these initiatives, Nasra will fight to implement state-facilitated retirement savings programs that offer low-cost, reliable options for seniors to grow their savings.

Healthcare and Aging in Place

  • Support expansions to Medicaid eligibility to ensure more seniors have access to the healthcare they need.

  • Push for a caregiver tax credit, providing financial relief to those caring for aging family members.

Housing and Community Support

  • Support policies to expand the development of accessory dwelling units (ADUs), providing affordable housing options.

  • With rising rents across Wisconsin, seniors on fixed incomes are particularly vulnerable. Nasra will propose tax incentives for landlords who commit to keeping rents affordable for senior tenants.

  • Wisconsin has seen cuts to programs that assist seniors in staying in their homes. Nasra will dedicate resources to restore and expand funding for vital services, ensuring that seniors have access to home modifications, meal delivery, and other supports that facilitate aging in place.

Protecting Seniors

  • Champion legislation to protect seniors from fraud and financial exploitation, ensuring their financial security. Senior fraud is a growing concern, with millions of dollars lost each year to scams targeting older adults. Nasra will support stronger consumer protection laws and educational programs to safeguard seniors against fraud.

  • Work to expand broadband coverage, ensuring seniors have access to the internet for essential services and staying connected with loved ones. High-speed internet is critical for accessing telehealth, staying connected, and managing finances.

  • Commit to expanding voter access, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to vote easily and securely. Wisconsin Republicans have enacted restrictive voting laws that disproportionately affect seniors. Nasra will fight to expand early voting, mail-in ballots, and other measures that make voting more accessible.
